Well, this is it. In the morning, I head off to my internship at TV Guide Magazine…but I couldn’t leave you guys without getting out one final Flash article before the Fall!
Back in March, we learned that the Big Bad of The Flash‘s fourth season would not be a speedster. When that news was released, fans had been guessing everything from an official Rogues team-up to Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) herself! Since then, however, a name was dropped twice on the series that was revealed by Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian) to be one of Barry’s (Grant Gustin) biggest foes–alongside Zoom (Teddy Sears) and the Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher). That name is Clifford DeVoe, aka The Thinker.
TVLine learned that DeVoe would be rearing his all-seeing/all-knowing head in Season 4 last week. However, they only said that “sources” gave them that information–hence why we didn’t run this story. Earlier this week, though, FlashTVNews got an official confirmation that Team Flash will be facing The Thinker come Fall.
Like Kadabra, DeVoe gets his powers (i.e. telekinesis and mind control) from advanced tech. That is, until he died and was resurrected as an AI that eventually gained consciousness by Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum). There’s no word yet on which version of the character we’ll be seeing but The CW is currently casting a 40-something actor to play “the fastest mind alive”.
What’s interesting about this character is that we might already know how Team Flash is going to defeat him. In the Season 3 finale, Savitar told Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) that, in the future, they come up with the idea for a “cerebral inhibitor to stop DeVoe”. Will this be how they thwart The Thinker? I look forward to finding out along with all of you when Season 4 premieres in October.
