This season has been one hell of a ride. Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) proposed to the love of his life, Iris West (Candice Patton)–twice, Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) was granted super-speed and became Kid Flash, Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) suited up as his superhero alter ego, Vibe, for the first time, Caitlin Snow found herself with cryokinesis and, therefore, turned into her Earth-2 doppelgänger, Killer Frost, H.R. Wells (Tom Cavanagh), Julian Albert (Tom Felton), and Tracy Brand (Anne Dudek) all joined Team Flash, and finally, the evil speed god from the future, Savitar, was revealed to be none other than a future version of Barry. Throughout the entire second half of the season, Team Flash has been fighting to stop Iris’ death at the hands of Savitar. Last week, Barry’s worst nightmare came to life in front of his eyes…or did it? Whatever ended up happening, this season finale was definitely poetic. For a season that had the main hero as its villain, it was fitting to see everyone else step into a hero role tonight. While Team Flash has never been more broken, it was also stronger than ever and that’s a good thing, because it looks like they’re going to need to rely on that strength going into Season 4.

'The Flash' Will 'Quickly' Explain Julian's Absence This Season

The episode began right where ‘Infantino Street’ ended–with Barry holding a lifeless Iris in his arms. On the rooftop, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) drops his gun and falls to the floor, heartbroken. H.R. then comes running onto the rooftop and picks up the gun (the moment that Barry and Cisco saw when Cisco first vibed him back to the future). He looks down at the park and sees Barry crying over Iris and Tracy standing to the side, looking devastated. He drops the gun, too. We then see Iris drop a pair of drumsticks and start breathing again, much to Barry’s surprise. However, Iris calls Barry “B.A.” She then holds up the facial transmogrifier and reveals that she’s actually H.R. Tracy runs toward him. The H.R. on the rooftop calls Joe “Dad” and the illusion fades to reveal that it’s actually Iris–alive and well. Unable to believe what just happened, they start crying and hugging each other. Joe asked her what happened and Iris explains that it was H.R. and not her.

We then see a flashback of what happened immediately after Cisco left H.R. at STAR Labs. He grabbed the piece of Savitar’s blade that they had and followed it to his lair where he found Iris tied up. He untied her but, as they began to run away, the blade flew out of H.R.’s and back on the armor, getting Savitar and Killer Frost’s attention. Savitar sent Killer Frost after H.R. and Iris. The two of them then hit a dead end and H.R. pulled out the transmogrifier. He disguised themselves as each other. Iris asked him what he was doing and H.R. explained that, because he’s the one who blabbed her location, he needs to make things right. Iris, not allowing H.R. to follow through with his plan, was about to grab the transmogrifier when Killer Frost blasted her, thinking she was H.R. H.R.-as-Iris told Killer Frost not to hurt Iris-as-H.R. and just take him/her.
