At the end of the Season 2 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) departed the Waverider, believing he had nothing else to teach its newest captain, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz). However, if you were worried that the man who brought the Legends together is gone for good, there’s no need to fear. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed on Entertainment Weekly’s Superhero Insider that Rip will be reappearing next season.

“We’ve got plans for Rip for next year,” Guggenheim explained. “It’s just in a different capacity than him being a member of the team.”

In the final seconds of ‘Aruba’, the Legends crash-landed in Los Angeles in 2017. However, because their future selves went back in time and interacted with their past selves, they broke the timeline. Dinosaurs are now running rampant in the 21st century and the skyline is littered with buildings from different eras. That being said, it’s anyone’s guess as to how we’ll see Rip again. Based on what Guggenheim said, though, the most likely guess is that we’ll find out what he’s up to in this broken timeline.

For those of you wondering if this new timeline will affect the other Arrowverse shows just like Flashpoint did, the answer is a definite no. “There will be an explanation in season 3 about why you’re not seeing dinosaurs running through Central City,” Guggenheim says. “We’d rather keep the shows separate in that regard.”

While the timeline on Arrow and The Flash will remain intact, I do hope that the other teams learn about the Legends’ mistake during the “true four-way crossover” being promised next year. After how much the Legends dragged Barry (Grant Gustin) for creating Flashpoint, it’ll be interesting to hear what he has to say to them after hearing what the Speed Force had to say to him this year.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return for its third season this fall.
