With all the casting news flying around from Arrow, the team from Supergirl got to throw their hat into the ring with some news of their own! Tyler Hoechlin will be reprising his role as Clark Kent — aka Superman — for the season finale of Supergirl‘s sophomore season.
Although many are excited by this news, Hoechlin wants to set the record straight that Superman is never meant to outshine Supergirl:
“The role of [Superman] coming into this, for me, from the very beginning, was to support her, which lends itself to being a supporting character,” Hoechlin told ComicBook.com last fall. “There was never an intention for this to be about him. It’s always about her. It’s called Supergirl, and Melissa [Benoist] has done such a great job. For him, it’s always about building her up and being there to impart wisdom when he can and support her when he can, but in no way try to make her feel like she’s not capable of doing anything that he could do.”
Supergirl arguably had some of its best episodes so far when Tyler Hoechlin played Superman at the beginning of the season. Let’s be honest, Supergirl could use some help right now to give it a boost going into the final stretch of the season.
Many (myself included) have thought that the show has lost its way a bit with the multiple story arcs and shallow character development. Let’s hope that Supergirl finishes strong and gives us some great anticipation going into Season 3!
Supergirl returns from hiatus on Monday, April 24 at 8/7c on The CW.
