An evil version of a family member, the Big Bad gaining a major advantage, a speedster getting trapped in the Speed Force (yes, you read that right)… No, ‘Rupture’ didn’t re-air tonight…but an episode that was possibly a little more heartbreaking did. ‘The Wrath of Savitar’ was a roller-coaster of an episode with one devastating revelation after another. Team Flash might’ve been at their worst but The Flash was definitely at it’s best. Here’s what happened.
The episode began with Barry (Grant Gustin), Jesse (Violett Beane), and Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) racing across Central City. When Wally beats his personal best, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) credits Barry, H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) credits himself and his ability to “milk epic greatness”, and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) credits Wally’s desire to not want to be beaten by his girlfriend. Barry and Jesse then take a faster route to STAR Labs and get into the position of Savitar (Tobin Bell) stabbing Iris (Candice Patton). Wally finally gets there and “saves Iris” in .21 seconds–just fast enough to actually save his sister in May. As the team celebrates, Wally catches a fleeting glimpse of Savitar on a nearby rooftop.
Caitlin then catches Julian (Tom Felton) as he’s walking out of the elevator. He came back to STAR Labs straight from the airport because Barry told him that he had news. They walk into the cortex and meet up with everyone. No one knows what’s going on. Iris and Barry then walk in with coffee for everyone and Barry lets Iris reveal the big news: they’re engaged! Everyone is incredibly happy for them…but Joe (Jesse L. Martin) doesn’t say anything. Iris asks him to say something. He walks up to them and reveals that he is so happy that his daughter is marrying the best man he knows. Cisco congratulates Barry and Barry asks him to be his best man!!!!! Cisco asks if he can bring Gypsy (Jessica Camacho) as his plus one.
Side note: I kid you not. Immediately after Barry proposed last week, I started writing a fanfic where Cisco is the best man at WestAllen’s wedding and he brings Gypsy as his plus one. I didn’t get to finish it before tonight’s episode aired but now that it’s actually a reality, I’m definitely planning on finishing it by next Tuesday!
Joe pulls Barry aside. He wants Barry to know that he is happy for them…but asks him why he didn’t ask for his blessing. He reminds Barry that he told him the story of how he asked for Francine’s (Vanessa Williams) dad’s blessing. Barry said that he knew Joe would say yes and he wanted to surprise him. Cisco and Wally interrupt with news of a fire. Wally tells Barry that Jesse’s gushing over the ring so it’s just going to be the two of them.
