This week’s episode of Supergirl, ‘We Can Be Heroes,’ opens with Kara and hero-in-training Mon-El working a fight simulation at the DEO. After taking out a couple of laser balls, Supergirl lets Mon-El know that she thinks he’s ready for the streets. I’m sorry, but didn’t that simulation end with one of the cardboard civilians getting her head chopped off? Of course, Supergirl did tell him the most important rule is to keep everyone safe. You know what else is an important rule: getting enough training before you practice heroics for real!
Speaking of wannabe heroes, Guardian and Winn have had another busy night. When Winn sees that James has a bullet wound in his arm, he immediately jumps back to “we can’t do this anymore! We need to tell Kara!” Winn also informs James that Mon-El is getting ready to go out into the field. James does not like this, as he feels that Mon-El doesn’t have what it takes. Oh, James, jealousy is so unbecoming of a superhero.
Prison Breaks and Comas
Meanwhile, Livewire (guest star Brit Morgan) is being seen by her therapist in prison when she is busted out by another inmate and someone posing as a guard. As Alex and Maggie investigate her cell, Kara comes in and is extremely upset that her nemesis has escaped. Back at the DEO, Kara lets her frustration show that Livewire is at large while Mon-El prances around and punches his fists in the air, much like a child who thinks he’s all big and bad.
Meanwhile, M’gann gets visions of the White Martians and chants about death and destruction before passing out. Alex tells J’onn that she is dying and suggests that the Martian mind meld would at least let them know what is happening with her. J’onn angrily refuses, saying he will not give someone he sees as an enemy access to his thoughts. Maybe it’s just me, but I can see the internal conflict J’onn is experiencing.
Secret of the Guardian
Kara arrives in James’s office where he intends to tell her he is Guardian. However, he immediately backs down when she talks about how she will never be alone as long as she has Mon-El. The two learn that Livewire is attacking the NCPD, and Kara rushes off to help, with James not far behind.
Supergirl and Mon-El arrive to stop Livewire. I can’t say I’m impressed with Mon-El’s superhero outfit. Maybe it’s just a temporary suit until Winn can design a proper one? Supergirl attempts to reason with Livewire using her real name but is quickly rejected. The guard impersonator arrives, also made out electricity and the fight is on. Of course, Mon-El disobeys Supergirl’s orders to protect the officers but Guardian arrives to help. Livewire and her accomplice escape, while Guardian and one of the officers are knocked unconscious. Supergirl pulls off Guardian’s helmet and learns that it’s James. I’m really relieved that Kara now knows the truth about James. I was worried that this was going to keep going through several more episodes.
