The Flash and fellow shows Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl regularly push the boundaries of the kind of special effects and action we expect from network television. Nonetheless, it looks The Flash will be upping the ante once again this spring.

Episodes 13 and 14 this season will make up a two-part story focusing on Gorilla Grodd and his new home on Earth-2, Gorilla City. In addition to Grodd, we’ll also meet the ruler of Gorilla City, Solovar (voiced by guest star Keith David).

“There are some sequences in the two episodes that are unbelievable. They’re epic and unbelievable in scale and scope.”

An Unprecedented Event

In a new tease for Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Aaron Helbing says, “The team will go to Gorilla City. We’ll see where Grodd was sent. We’ll see his standing amongst the other gorillas. There are some sequences in the two episodes that are unbelievable. They’re epic and unbelievable in scale and scope. I’ve never seen anything like it on television.”

That’s a bold statement, especially considering this season already contained the epic four-show Invasion! crossover — an event that for many felt more like a three-hour movie than television.

We know from this week’s episode that the gorillas will also be wreaking havoc on Central City. At least, they did in the original timeline where Savitar kills Iris. After Cisco vibed Barry back to the scene, the team took note of all the news headlines in an attempt to change the future. A gorilla attack was one story that was mentioned, so perhaps the entire two-parter is an attempt to make sure Grodd and his brethren don’t attack the city.
