After a few years of downright frustrating flashbacks on Arrow, the new Russian Bratva storyline this season has been a refreshing change of pace. And a big part of the success behind that new story thread is the casting of Dolph Lundgren as Konstantin Kovar.

Lundgren’s character only started to appear in the last few episodes, but he’s added a charisma and strength that’s hard to ignore. Not to mention, who could forget that epic fight between Konstantin and Oliver in episode 5×07, ‘Vigilante’?

More Lundgren Coming Soon

It seems the producers of Arrow are aware of how much fans are enjoying his performance, as well. It was previously announced that Lundgren’s appearance was expanded beyond the original scheduled three episodes after producers were impressed with his portrayal of Kovar.

“The plan is for Konstantin to have a very key meeting with a corrupt, American multimillionaire businessman. Make of that what you will.”

Now, co-showrunner Marc Guggenheim tells ComicBook.com the show will soon feature an episode that focuses almost exclusively on Lundgren and Kovar.

“Russia is very much in the zeitgeist these days, and coming into the back half of the year, we’re doing a lot more with Russia,” said Guggenheim. “We’re going to do a Russia-centric episode, a flashback-centric episode like we did in the first three years of the show. We’ll be doing that later on in the season and that will have Dolph Lundgren’s character, Konstantin Kovar, very much front and center.”

Obviously, Russia is very much in the news these days in the United States. While the decision to set the flashbacks in Russia was made long before the current real-world controversies, Guggenheim says the aforementioned episode will have a bit of a political subtext.

“In that episode — assuming the scheduling works out because we’re still writing this episode — the plan is for Konstantin to have a very key meeting with a corrupt, American multimillionaire businessman,” said Guggenheim. “Make of that what you will.”

There’s no word on exactly which episode will feature Lundgren so prominently, but based on other statements from Guggenheim, it appears it will be after episode 5×12, at least.

Arrow returns from winter hiatus next Wednesday, January 25 at 8/7c on The CW.
