Congratulations, everyone! You’ve officially survived your first week of the Arrowverse winter hiatus! Five more weeks to go! I think you deserve a reward, don’t you? How about some info on new characters coming to Supergirl, The Flash, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow when the shows return from their holiday breaks?
First off, National City will be visited by a “powerful fifth-dimensional imp” Super-fans might know by the name of Mr. Mxyzptlk (pronounced mix-yeez-spit-lick according to Superman: The Animated Series). ComicBook.com reports that the Man of Steel’s long-time foe will be tormenting his cousin for two episodes when Supergirl returns. Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time this whimsical character will be portrayed in a live-action medium. He’s appeared before on The Adventures of Superboy, Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and even Smallville.
Moving over to Central City, two new characters will be helping out Team Flash when the series returns. According to set photos from yvrshoots.com, an old friend of HR’s (Tom Cavanagh) will cross over to Earth-1:
This, ladies and gentleman, is The Flash of Earth-19, Accelerated Man. (No word yet on who the man behind the scarf is.) We heard a little bit about him when HR was telling Cisco (Carlos Valdes) about World War M in ‘Monster’ but don’t know much else. In any case, it’ll no doubt be very cool to meet a speedster from beyond Earth-3.
Another character who was captured on camera that same night is this woman in black:
Fans had to speculate who she was for a while but we finally got a hint that she might be someone very close to our beloved Vibe when Valdes revealed on The Flash Fan Feast that Cindy Reynolds, aka Gypsy, will be making her live-action debut on the show in 2017. Here’s what he had to say:
“New tricks are definitely in store for Vibe. There’s gonna be a new visitor to our world named Gypsy. DC Comics fans will be familiar with Gypsy. She’s gonna be coming into our world and Vibe will definitely get to learn some new skills as part of getting to know her, so I’m excited to see how that plays out.”
Based on his description, though, it seems as if we won’t be meeting the JLA Detroit version whose powers of illusion began to manifest at age fourteen, but the New 52 version–a refugee from an alternate dimension whose real name is Cynthia Mordeth and who becomes very close to Cisco in their fight against ARGUS and Rupture (a name that should sound very familiar to Flash fans).
It was confirmed that this was indeed her when The Wrap reported two days ago that she’ll be played by Sleepy Hollow alum Jessica Camacho.
Gypsy’s abilities allow her to become invisible/camouflage, appear as other people, and project someone’s worst fears into their minds. It’s no wonder that her and Vibe become fast friends as they also both share powers of astral projection and precognition. Speaking of Vibe…here’s some incredible photos of him in his super-suit fighting alongside The Flash (Grant Gustin), Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), Jesse Quick (Violett Beane), and Gypsy:
Finally, our favorite time travelers will be meeting two very interesting characters when Legends of Tomorrow returns next year: one real and one fictional.
The first was announced by Caity Lotz (Sara Lance) on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Fan Feast. According to the actress, while stuck in the 60s, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) will meet up with one of the most prolific filmmakers of our time:
“Yeah, Rip Hunter. We see him in a new way that we have never seen him before. He’s funny. You’ll like it. He’s actually […] a filmmaker and we’re also gonna see him with another film director that you guys may know by the name of George Lucas. […] If you’re a Star Wars fan, this might be the most important mission The Legends have ever gone on.”
Yep. You read that correctly. The ‘Father of the Force’ will come face-to-face with the (former) Time Master in a future episode. If we’re placing bets, I’m putting my money on episode 2×09, ‘Raiders of the Lost Art’. While he’s most widely known for the Star Wars franchise, don’t forget that Lucas is also the creator of the one and only Indiana Jones.
As for the fictional character, that’s none other than Queen Guinevere (King Arthur’s wife) who, Entertainment Weekly reports, will be played by The Originals alum Elyse Levesque. She’ll be appearing in episode 2×12, ‘Camelot/3000’. Here’s a photo Lotz posted on Instagram of her, Levesque, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Amaya Jiwe) from the set of the episode earlier this week:
As far as Arrow goes, no new characters have been announced but there’s sure to be a lot to look forward to as it seems that the Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) herself has risen from the dead. Make sure to tune into the midseason premiere of Supergirl, ‘Supergirl Lives‘, on January 23rd at 8/7c and the midseason premieres of The Flash and Legends, ‘Borrowing Problems from the Future’ and ‘Raiders of the Lost Art’ the following day at 8/7c and 9/8c, respectively, all on The CW.
