The crossover is officially over and we’re finally heading into midseason finale week. On Wednesday’s episode of Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell) will learn that Prometheus knows the identities of him and everyone on his team. It’s no doubt going to be an intense hour of television before the winter hiatus starts.
The photo gallery includes some crazy shots of the fight between Prometheus and Green Arrow (with back-up from Spartan and Wild Dog), but what’s even more crazy are the two photos where Oliver is wearing his original suit from the first two seasons. However, with Prometheus being a result of Oliver’s actions earlier in the series, it’s not too much of a surprise that we’re seeing The Hood/The Arrow again. Amell even teased this particular flashback during TVLine’s visit to the set last month:
“We begin to explore why Prometheus is doing what he’s doing. We actually have to go back in our story, which is interesting and something that I’m very proud that we’re doing in a fifth season. We’re calling back to a lot of familiar parts of our early days in the show.”
The trailer, on the other hand, focuses on the interesting bit of information we learned at the end of ‘Vigilante’: Evelyn (Madison McLaughlin) is a mole who’s working for Prometheus. In this week’s episode, Oliver will learn the truth about his youngest recruit.
Artemis was noticeably absent from Arrow‘s crossover episode. EP Marc Guggenheim explained why during a press screening of the event:
“It’s funny, to be honest with you, in the break of 508, we talked a lot about ‘Do we have her in there?’ It felt like it was the elephant in the room and we didn’t want it distracting, so we don’t reference it in large part because I’m not a fan of, ‘Oh, it’s too bad that Evelyn’s mom is sick this week.’ I would prefer to just whistle past the graveyard. I will say, you will get a payoff to 507’s cliffhanger with respect to Evelyn big time in 509.”
The trailer certainly makes it seem that way. Guggenheim also surprisingly revealed that Evelyn wasn’t always on the Dark Side. There was a very specific moment where she made the decision to turn against Oliver:
“Rewatch episode 506. If you view the end of 506 and her final scenes with Oliver as, ‘Oh, she’s lying,’ I think you see when she decided to team up with Prometheus. Basically in the commercial break between Act 5 and Act 6 [of that episode], that’s when she made the decision to join up with Prometheus. So while people were watching car commercials, that’s what she was doing.”
Finally, Team Arrow learned about the catastrophic repercussions of Flashpoint during the crossover. Here’s what Guggenheim said about how they’ll deal with those revelations:
“[In the Arrow] midseason finale, there’s a fair amount of discussion about Flashpoint, given the fact that, essentially the crossover outed Flashpoint to the Arrow characters who weren’t Felicity, and they deal with — I think in some humorous ways, actually — deal with some of the ramifications. For example, I think Curtis (Echo Kellum) is concerned that maybe he was straight originally, as one example.”
Tune in to ‘What We Leave Behind’ December 7th at 8/7c on The CW.
