The former ‘Justified’ co-star will appear in the Russia-set Season 5 flashbacks

The cast of Arrow is already bursting at the seams for Season 5, but now we’ve learned that another new face has joined the show. David Meunier will appear in a recurring role as the head of the Russian Bratva.

Meunier will play the character of Ishmael Gregor, described by Deadline as “the slick and intimidating Pakhan (‘Godfather’) of the Bratva, whom Anatoly (David Nykl) reports and takes a special interest in Oliver Queen.”

In the pages of DC Comics, Gregor was a Russian mobster in New York whose lust for power brings him to possess the power of the demon Sabbac. Considering Arrow‘s more “grounded” tone in the upcoming season, it’s doubtful the demonic storyline will get much (if any) attention.

Meunier spent four years on the FX series Justified as Johnny Crowder and recently appeared on NBC’s Aquarius (along with actor Grey Damon, who was recently cast as Mirror Master on The Flash) and A&E’s Omen spin-off, Damien.

David Nykl will return in Arrow Season 5 to reprise the role of Anatoly Knyazev, the role he originated in Season 2. It was that story that first brought the Bratva to prominence on Arrow, and fans have been waiting ever since for the backstory behind Oliver’s Russian ties.
