Former ‘Wonder Woman’ star to guest-star in Season 2

One of the most exciting new cast additions announced for Supergirl‘s sophomore season has to be Lynda Carter as the U.S. president. And now, thanks to series star Melissa Benoist, we have our first look at Carter’s POTUS on set.

Carter starred as the title heroine in the ABC/CBS Wonder Woman series from 1975-1979 and, until the recent big screen debut of Gal Gadot, was the face most frequently associated with the role.

Late last night, Benoist posted a picture to her Instagram account showing herself in the Supergirl costume posing with Carter, presumably in her presidential attire. The caption reads, “Met a wonderful woman today”:

Producers originally intended for Carter to appear in the show’s first season, but were unable to make the scheduling work. Several references were made to the fact that there was a female president in office, however.

Carter joins several other alumni from prior DC adaptations on Supergirl, including Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) as Jeremiah Danvers, Helen Slater (1984’s Supergirl movie) as Eliza Danvers, and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville) as Indigo.

Supergirl‘s unnamed POTUS will be joined by several other new characters this season, including Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, Chris Wood as Mon-El, Sharon Leal as Miss Martian, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Floriana Lima as Detective Maggie Sawyer, and Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr.

With production now underway in its new Vancouver home, Supergirl will fly from CBS to The CW for its second season premiere on Monday, October 10 at 8/7c.
