The professional comic book bodyguard will be Mayor Queen’s new protector

Believe it or not, yet another new DC Comics character is coming to Arrow in Season 5. And this time, it’s someone who’s had a recent television history: Human Target.

Actor Mark Valley (Fringe) starred for two seasons in a Human Target series for FOX from 2010-2011. The show was only loosely based on the comic book character of Christopher Chance, a professional bodyguard who uses disguises to assume the identities of known assassination targets.

In 1992, ABC actually aired seven episodes of their own Human Target series starring Rick Springfield — yes, THAT Rick Springfield.

This time around, Chance will be played by Australian actor Wil Traval, who co-starred in the first season of Marvel’s Netflix Original Series Jessica Jones as Will Simpson, a super-soldier turned NYPD officer.

Traval will make his debut in the fifth episode of Season 5 when Human Target takes on a new client: Mayor Oliver Queen.

The character of Christopher Chance was created in 1972 by Len Wein and Carmine Infantino for Action Comics #419. He appeared in a number of various DC titles over the years before starring in his own long-running title for DC’s Vertigo imprint.

Arrow returns for Season 5 on Wednesday, October 5 at 8/7c on The CW.
