The ‘Rocky IV’ star will play the head of the Russian Bratva

Just announced at the The CW’s TCA panel, a former 80’s heavyweight action star will be taking on Oliver Queen in the next season of Arrow. Dolph Lundren has been cast to appear in the show’s flashbacks this fall.

As previously reported, this year’s flashbacks will see Ollie travelling to Russia. Showrunner Marc Guggenheim confirmed today that this is the last year the show will have flashbacks, with the season culminating in Oliver’s rescue at the beginning of Season 1.

Lundgren will play the head of the Russian Bratva, in a storyline that will finally explain how Oliver got the infamous Bratva tattoo that was integral to an early Season 2 story arc.

Rocky IV brought Lundgren his breakout role as Ivan Drago, which he followed with a successful action career in the 1980’s. He previously played a comic book role as the lead in 1989 Marvel adaptation The Punisher, and most recently has appeared in The Expendables series with Sylvester Stallone and other action stars.

This is a breaking news story, so we’ll have more as it develops.
