Actor previously announced to be playing a ‘surprise’ role in the new season

One of the worst-kept secrets surrounding the upcoming season of Supergirl has now been confirmed. Producers announced today at the CW TCA panel that actor Chris Wood will be playing the character of Mon-El.

Wood was announced as joining the show last month in what was described as a “surprise” fan favorite role. Just prior to the Supergirl panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Bleeding Cool published a story claiming that not only was Wood playing the character in the mysterious Kryptonian pod seen in the Season 1 finale, but that character was actually Legion of Super-Heroes member Mon-El.

It was later confirmed at the Comic-Con panel that Wood was indeed playing the character in the pod, but producers were mum on exactly who that character was, making today the first confirmation we’ve received that Wood is indeed playing Mon-El.

Mon-El is a superhero with similar abilities as Superman and Supergirl, though is a Daxamite, not a Kryptonian. Instead of a weakness to kryptonite, Daxamites have a weakness to the common element lead.

Speaking of Superman, it seems likely Wood will find himself facing off with Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, as the Man of Steel is set to appear in the first two episodes of the upcoming season.
