The headline pretty much says it all. It was announced today at the The CW’s Television Critics Association panel that Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) will be returning to Earth-2 in yet another two-episode arc and meeting up with the famed psychic gorilla, Grodd, whom Team Flash let loose in the parallel world’s Gorilla City in the first half of Season 2. This will mark Grodd’s third appearance since we first got a glimpse of him in the Season 1 episode, ‘Fallout’.

For those who need a refresher, Grodd was a normal gorilla until General Wade Eiling (Clancy Brown) experimented on him–seemingly to the displeasure of Eobard Thawne who was masquerading as Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh)–and he subsequently became exposed to the dark matter released by the particle accelerator explosion. Now telepathic, telekinetic, and insanely smart (and strong), Grodd made his home in the sewers where he kidnapped Joe West (Jesse L. Martin).

Months after Barry saved Joe and temporarily defeated Grodd, the meta-ape kidnapped Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker) who wanted her to make more gorillas like him. After freeing her from his clutches, Team Flash opened up a breach to Earth-2 and pushed Grodd through…where he ended up in Gorilla City.

Gorilla City is a well-known location in the comics. It first appeared in The Flash (vol. 1) #106 in 1959 and was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino. A city of sentient gorillas, it was ruled by King Solovar who frequently clashed with Grodd until he was assassinated by members of the Human Supremacy Movement. (It was later revealed, though, that the bombing that ended his life was a ruse by the Simian Scarlet, a group of gorillas manipulated by none other than Grodd.)

With the announcement of this news, it may not be long before we meet the prominent royal himself.
