New behind-the-scenes Instagram photo could be hiding clues to ‘The Flash’ Season 3 storyline

In an interview with director Kevin Smith (‘The Runaway Dinosaur’) at San Diego Comic-Con this year, The Flash star Grant Gustin revealed the Flashpoint storyline will not be lasting all season long — although there will be “permanent ramifications” of Barry’s decision to save his mother throughout the season (and potentially the series).

Since then, fans have been speculating just how long Barry Allen will be living in the alternate timeline showcased in the Season 3 trailer. A popular theory was that the mega four-show crossover this winter will be when Barry realizes he needs to go back in time again and fix his mistake.

However, a new photo posted by actress Danielle Panabaker (Caitlin Snow) on her Instagram account yesterday reveals we may be finding ourselves back in the normal timeline much sooner.

There are several things you’ll notice in this photo from the table read for episode 3×04:

  1. Grant and Candice Patton are dressed in the same clothes seen in a certain set of photos that have been making their way around the Internet. In them, it’s looking as if Barry is taking Iris out on a romantic date…complete with a flower heart and her name spelled out in flowers. *swoon*
  2. Tom Cavanagh is dressed (presumably) as Harry. Violett Beane (Jesse Wells) is in the photo, as well. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed in the TV Guide Comic-Con Special that Harry and Jesse will be returning “a little bit later in Season 3”, but seeing as this is the table read for episode 4, it’s looking like we won’t have to wait as long as we thought to see the return of the Wells family.
  3. If you watched the trailer for Season 3, you’ll see that Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) has become the richest man in America. (Another fun piece of news: Grant revealed at SDCC that Cisco made it big by selling his tech for billions. Smart move!) In the trailer, he’s sporting a navy blue suit and a pink tie, his hair is pulled back, and he’s wearing glasses. You’ll notice that that’s not the case in this photo. Carlos is back in Cisco’s normal wardrobe: a graphic tee and cargo pants…no hair tie or glasses in sight.
'The Flash' Unveils New Logo for Season 4

Putting all these observations together, we can come to the conclusion that (unless Carlos just got finished shooting a flashback), the Flashpoint timeline will be over by the season’s fourth episode and Barry and Iris will officially be a couple when he returns. Thank you, Danielle (and Candice and Violett), for sharing the photo!

The Flash returns for Season 3 on Tuesday, October 4th at 8/7c on The CW.
