Lots of new details on the Justice Society of America and…The Legion of Doom!
Today was the big day for the Arrowverse shows at San Diego Comic-Con. First was Supergirl, then the cast of Legends of Tomorrow took the stage. And boy, did they have some surprises up their sleeve!
The show has only been filming for about a week, so there wasn’t much new footage to show. Fortunately, there was a cool new preview reel (above) featuring mostly Season 1 footage to set up the new story, but with just enough new Season 2 footage to whet our appetites.
Next the cast came out to loud applause: Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter), Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/White Canary), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), Franz Drameh (Jax/Firestorm), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave), Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/Atom), and newcomers Maisie Richardson-Sellers (Amaya Jiwe/Vixen), and Nick Zano (Dr. Nate Heywood/Commander Steel).
The first big news the cast revealed was in regard to the Justice Society of America. Saying “even superheroes have superheroes,” it was revealed that the members of the JSA appearing on Legends will be Dr. Midnight, Commander Steel, Vixen, Obsidian, and Stargirl. (Dr. Midnight, Obsidian, and Stargirl have not yet been cast). Vixen and Commander Steel will be regular cast members this season.
The season premiere will feature an appearance by Stephen Amell as Star City mayor Oliver Queen within its first few minutes. Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) will also appear in the season premiere in 1942 (as seen in the trailer above). Johnathon Schaech will also return as Jonah Hex in the sixth episode this season.
Mick will be dealing with Leonard Snart’s death and coming out his shadow this season, and Sara will eventually find a new romance. A big twist will come for Rip early in the season that will change everything.
The biggest news to come out of the Legends panel was the reveal of the season’s new villains. That’s right — villains, plural. The Legion of Doom is coming to Legends of Tomorrow! Eobard Thawne, AKA Reverse Flash, will head up the group, played once again by Matt Letscher. Joining him will be Leonard Snart, AKA Captain Cold, Damien Darhk, and…Malcolm Merlyn!
At this point, John Barrowman actually came to join the cast on stage. “I’ve got a little experience with time travel,” he said, referring to his time on Doctor Who. Darvill, of course, was also on Doctor Who, but the two never shared any episodes.
The final tidbits were that the show is not done with Hawkman and Hawkgirl, but there are no plans to bring them back just yet. It was also confirmed that Season 2 will be a full 23 episodes.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return October 13 at 8/7c on The CW.
