Brand new details on ‘Arrow’ Season 5 and a first-look trailer straight from Comic-Con!

The CW’s DC television shows wrapped up their Saturday takeover of Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con with a look at Season 5 of Arrow with the cast and crew.

The panel began with a brand-new trailer for the upcoming season (above).

From the trailer, it looks like Oliver and Felicity are recruiting a new team of vigilantes, starting with Curtis. Near the end, we get a glimpse of the season’s new bad guy, an archer code-named “Prometheus” (not to be confused with the DC Comics character actually named Prometheus).

Afterward, the cast took to the stage: Stephen Amell, (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow), Emily Bett Rickards (Felicity Smoak), Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance), Willa Holland (Thea Queen), David Ramsey (John Diggle), Echo Kellum (Curtis Holt), and…John Barrowman (Malcolm Merlyn)! Looks like Malcolm’s new Legion of Doom role on Legends of Tomorrow won’t preclude him from also appearing on Arrow.

Speaking of Malcolm, it was revealed during the panel that producers originally toyed with the idea of making him Oliver’s father, but decided it was “too Darth Vader.” So they went with Thea instead.

When the season begins, Diggle will be in Chechnya, still dealing with the loss of Laurel and his brother, Andy. Felicity and Oliver will be putting their relationship issues on the back burner until at least the fifth episode. Ollie won’t be doing at great job as mayor, at least at first, due to his failure to put together a competent team. Thea will be stuck picking up his slack.

The 100th episode of Arrow will be episode 5×08, which coincidentally will be part two of the three-part crossover between all four shows: Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

The biggest news out of the Arrow panel, though, involved the future of actress Katie Cassidy, who played Laurel Lance/Black Canary. Cassidy will be back, not only on Arrow, but across all of the shows! She will be the third player to sign a new multi-show contract, after Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), and John Barrowman. There’s no details yet on how she’ll return, but it’s nice to know we haven’t seen the last of Laurel Lance.

Arrow returns on Wednesday, October 5 at 8/7c on The CW.
