Two stars from ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ will guest-star on the animated spin-off this summer

When the animated Arrowverse series Vixen returns to CW Seed this summer, it will have a few more familiar faces popping up. In addition to returning stars Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow) and Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash), two heroes from Legends of Tomorrow will be putting in appearances, as well.

The news comes from this week’s special Comic-Con issue of TV Guide, scanned to Twitter by fans. In her second season, heroine Mari McCabe will have run-ins with Legends stars Brandon Routh (Atom) and Franz Drameh (Firestorm) — as well as the previously announced return of Katie Cassidy as Black Canary (though the story is set prior to her Arrow death).

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim says the new faces are the result of Vixen “expanding her sense of obligation beyond the borders of Detroit. There’s a much larger world out there that needs her protection…we wanted to dramatize that by doubling down on the number of characters we reveal in animated form. It’s something that’s really cool and not just a gimmick. It plays directly into Mari’s character journey.”

'Arrow' Season 6 Could Feature a Female-Centric Team Episode

Vixen made her live-action debut last season on Arrow, played by her voice artist, Megalyn Echikunwoke. The character will also be a series regular on Legends of Tomorrow next season, but with a twist. Echikunwoke was unavailable for a full series commitment, so rather than recast, the Legends version of Vixen will be Mari McCabe’s grandmother, Amaya Jiwe. She’ll be played by Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

There’s no word yet on when the six-episode second season of Vixen will premiere, but given season one’s August debut, it’s a good bet it’ll drop this August as well.

We’ll likely hear more about Vixen and Legends of Tomorrow this weekend at Comic-Con, so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr for all the latest news.
