Wally West will suit up as Kid Flash in ‘The Flash’ Season 3 premiere
Ever since Keiynan Lonsdale joined The Flash as Joe’s long-lost son, Wally West, fans have been wondering when we’d see him suit up as his comic-book counterpart, Kid Flash. Now we have our answer — and the photos to prove it.
The CW announced today that Wally West will appear as Kid Flash in the Season 3 premiere, ‘Flashpoint.’ In addition, they released two new photos of Lonsdale in costume:
The title of the season premiere takes its name from the infamous Flashpoint comic book storyline in which The Flash found himself in an alternate timeline, eventually resulting in the New 52 reboot of the DC universe.
After Barry went back in time in The Flash Season 2 finale, it became clear the show was following a similar storyline itself. That has since been confirmed, but we still don’t know how long the Flashpoint storyline will last on the series, or if Kid Flash will only appear in this one episode.
Near the end of Season 2, both Wally and Jesse Wells were hit by the Speedforce in an incident that appeared to be leading toward them becoming speedsters. In the comics, Jesse is known as Jesse Quick (a nickname that Dr. Wells did occasionally use on the show), and while she did experience a coma similar to Barry Allen’s, the season ended with her still human and returning to Earth-2 with her father.
In the pages of DC Comics, Wally West actually became the Flash for 20 years, from the late 1980s to the late 2000s, after the death of Barry Allen in the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline. In the New 52 continuity, Wally West was overhauled and eventually became Kid Flash once more, though the recent DC Rebirth series has Wally realizing who he once was, becoming the Flash again.
We’ll get to see Kid Flash in action when The Flash returns for its third season on Tuesday, October 4, at 8/7c on The CW.
