Tyler Ritter to play new Star City Detective, while Echo Kellum’s Curtis will become more like Cisco Ramon
Today brings a couple of new stories regarding the upcoming fifth season of Arrow, starting with (yet another) new actor joining the show. Tyler Ritter will play Detective Malone, a new character on the Star City police force.
Malone is meant to fill the void left by Paul Blackthorne’s Captain Lance, who left the police force at the end of last season. The Hollywood Reporter says Blackthorne will still be a series regular next year, so it looks like we’ll be seeing more of Quentin Lance adjusting to civilian life.
Tyler Ritter is the son of the late John Ritter, and has had numerous roles in television and film, most notably as the lead in the 2014-2015 CBS sitcom The McCarthys. Last season he appeared in the two-part NCIS/NCIS: Los Angeles crossover, ‘Sister City.’
Also in the news today, Arrow executive producer Wendy Mericle elaborated to TVLine on how Echo Kellum’s role as Curtis Hold will expand now that he’s been promoted to series regular next season, without conflicting with Felicity’s role as the resident tech expert:
“Essentially, if she’s software, he’s hardware. As he evolves into becoming Mr. Terrific in Season 5, one of the things we’re really exploring is differentiating them by having Curtis be more like Cisco on The Flash. We want him to be a bit more hands-on, a little more about building physical tech.”
Arrow begins filming Season 5 on July 5. Stephen Amell will appear on an Arrow panel at San Diego Comic-Con July 13 to preview the new season and participate in an audience Q&A session. Season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, October 5, at 8/7c on The CW.
