Actress Violett Beane confirms Jesse Quick will be included next season — but in what way?
When The Flash returns this fall for its third season, it seems likely we’ll be looking at a very different show. When Barry traveled back in time to save his mother in the Season 2 finale, he changed the timeline in a way that should make the present unrecognizable. So which characters will return and in what manner is up for much debate at this point.
It’s already been confirmed that Tom Cavanagh will return as a series regular, likely playing the Earth-1 version of Harrison Wells, sans Eobard Thawne (which would make this the third version of Wells in as many seasons). Now we have word that Dr. Wells’ daughter from Earth-2, Jesse Quick, will also return… the question now is how?
TVLine caught up with actress Violett Beane at the Saturn Awards this week, where she confirmed her return to the show: “I know I’ll be back. But I don’t know if it’s with or without powers.”
“When Jesse got hit, I was like ‘It’s happening! It’s happening!'”
Near the end of last season, Jesse and Wally were hit by a wave of speed force energy when Dr. Wells attempted to recreate the particle accelerator explosion and give Barry his powers back. After awakening from a coma, it seemed likely that Jesse would gain speedster powers as well, but it wasn’t to be:
“When Jesse got hit, I was like ‘It’s happening! It’s happening! There was the spark when she got out of the coma, but… it didn’t happen, and I was like, ‘No!’ I’m very excited [to play a speedster], and would love for it to happen early next season.”
The more likely scenario is that Dr. Wells has a daughter in the altered timeline, allowing Beane to play a new Earth-1 version of Jesse, something she herself acknowledges as a possibility:
“With the whole Flashpoint, anything can happen, right? It’s literally open to any different kind of false reality. She could be Earth-One Jesse, she could be a speedster…. Who knows!”
