It’s time to see ‘Smallville’ star Tom Welling finally suit up
Superman is returning to the CW!
With last week’s announcement that the Man of Steel is coming to Supergirl, fans around the world have been chiming in with potential candidates. One name stands above all others. For ten seasons, Tom Welling portrayed Clark Kent on Smallville.
Whether you loved the show or hated it, one thing fans can agree on is that Welling was phenomenal. One cannot help be disappointed that he never got to be seen in the full Superman costume. The time has come to right this injustice!
It makes sense that Welling should be the one chosen to play Superman. Personally, Smallville was not for my tastes as I found it be too much teen drama. I actually did not make it through the entire series. I watched the first three seasons and the final episode. However, I felt that Welling did a great job with the material he was given, providing the young Clark Kent with a lot of emotional depth.
During his time on Smallville, we watched Clark evolve from a high school kid to the young hero of Metropolis struggling to find his path. Particularly in the later seasons, it is my understanding that we were able to see Clark come to grips with having to become Superman. This could not have been done without the extraordinary acting talents of Welling.
Fans have already started speculating what Welling would look like as Superman. Artist BossLogic shared his vision on Twitter last week:

Personally, I think it would be an injustice to not see Welling in the Superman costume. Technically, he played the role longer than any other actor, so it makes sense that he gets his shot at wearing the suit. I also think this would be interesting for the fans of his version of Clark Kent to see how a young Superman handles himself.
Hopefully, the CW will make the right decision. They should at least give Welling the courtesy of asking him if he he wants to do it. With the news that his upcoming show Section 13 is not moving forward, it makes sense that he now has the time to do it. It only seems fair that Welling return to the network that helped get his career started.
