Mysterious new character being cast now doesn’t trust Barry’s friendliness

When The Flash returns this fall, we have no idea what it’s going to look like. In the season finale, Barry traveled back in time and prevented his mother’s death, so the present day that he’ll return to will be irreparably changed. We do know that Tom Cavanagh will continue to be a series regular (most likely as the Earth-1 Harrison Wells, sans the possession by Eobard Thawne). And now we have word that a new cast member will be joining the show, as well.

TVLine reports that producers are casting the “major recurring character of Barry’s slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary, a guy who is as smart as he is intuitive. As such, this newcomer doesn’t buy Barry’s nice guy routine and sets out to learn what he’s hiding — all while concealing some secrets of his own….”

No villains from The Flash’s comic book rogue’s gallery match that description verbatim, so it’s hard to say if this will be an original character or not. It’s possible that Barry will be sporting a very optimistic attitude (even moreso than usual) after rescuing his mother, leading this newcomer to question the reasons behind it. But what secrets are he himself trying to hide?

Also slipped into the same article is the news that John Barrowman’s status for Arrow season 5 is unknown at this time. Surely we’ll be seeing Malcolm Merlyn again, but it sounds like he might be taking an extended vacation for now.
