Casting is currently underway for a new actor to don the iconic Superman tights and cape

One of the biggest complaints fans had regarding Season 1 of Supergirl was how the show continued to skirt the issue of Superman. The iconic superhero (and cousin to Supergirl) was shown in glimpses, but his face was always obscured. His alter ego kept in contact with Supergirl’s alter ego, Kara Danvers, via instant messenger.

Well, that issue will now be resolved. It appears that one more change coming to Supergirl besides the move to The CW and Vancouver will be an actual appearance by Superman. Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg released a statement today on behalf of the entire producing team, including Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, announcing that show is going to finally reveal their Superman:

“Greg, Ali and I are beyond thrilled to welcome Clark Kent and his slightly-more-famous alter ego to the world of ‘Supergirl.’ Superman will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season and we cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!”

One former Superman already has a presence on Supergirl; actor Dean Cain plays Kara’s adoptive father, Jeremiah Danvers and previously portrayed Superman in the 1990s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Another former Superman, Brandon Routh (who played the role in 2006’s Superman Returns) appears as Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

Today’s announcement states that “we are currently in the casting process for this role,” so don’t expect Henry Cavill to make a cameo appearance as the big screen Superman.

Now that the cat’s out of the bag, who do you think should play Superman? Any known actors who fit the bill or should the Supergirl producers go with an unknown?
