‘Supergirl’ star says she’s heard ‘rumblings,’ but is still in the dark
When Supergirl ended its first season, the show left viewers with a mystery. After Kara saved Earth from annihilation in the season finale, “Better Angels,” a Kryptonian space pod (just like the one that brought Kara to Earth) crash-landed near National City. When Kara opened the pod, she was stunned — but we never saw who was actually inside.
So who could be in that mysterious pod? Could it be Kara’s mother, Alura Zor-El (Laura Benanti)? Could it be the real Kal-El? Or even Krypto the Superdog? (Please be Krypto, please be Krypto, please be Krypto).
Well, one person who surprisingly doesn’t know who or what is in that pod is Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist. TVLine caught up with the actress at the recent CW Upfront presentation and asked her about the big cliffhanger:
“I have theories. I’ve heard some rumblings as to who it may be, but I’m not positive,” Benoist said.
Considering most of the actors from Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow seem to be pretty well-versed in what’s coming up in their next seasons, it’s a bit of a shock to hear that Benoist is in the dark here. Could it be that producers haven’t decided who’s in the pod yet? It wouldn’t be unheard of; Arrow started Season 4 with a flash-forward, showing Oliver mourning at a grave, and producers fully admitted they had no idea who would eventually end up in that grave.
Supergirl is currently on summer hiatus, but should begin production on Season 2 next month in the show’s new Vancouver home. When it returns in the fall, Supergirl will keep its Monday timeslot at 8/7c, but will now air on The CW.
