Supergirl star says Kara Zor-El and Barry Allen work better as friends
Bad news, shippers: Supergirl star Melissa Benoist is throwing cold water on the idea of her Kryptonian superhero hooking up with the Flash.
Benoist was interviewed on the latest episode of DC All Access (above) and had this to say when asked about a romance with the fastest man alive:
“I don’t know if they’d ever get together; I think they’re too similar.”
“I don’t know if they’d ever get together; I think they’re too similar. I think they’re pals, pigging out on ice cream…and donuts. All the donuts.”
As you may recall, it was Flash star Grant Gustin that got the Kara/Barry pot stirring in the first place when he was a guest on DC All Access last week. Gustin admitted that he “had a really fun dynamic” with Benoist, and was asked if there might be more to their relationship in the future. After a brief pause, Gustin replied, “I think [Barry and Kara] would make a great couple.”
Oh well. At least Kara finally seems to be starting a relationship with James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) on Supergirl. As for the Flash — who knows? After finally convincing Iris (Candace Patton) to try a relationship with him, Barry said he needed some time. Which was an ironic choice of words because he then went back in time and changed the entire timeline.
Both shows are currently on summer hiatus but should begin production in July. News on the upcoming season should heat up around that time, especially after San Diego Comic Con. Supergirl moves to The CW this fall on Mondays at 8/7c, and The Flash will continue to air on Tuesdays at 8/7c.
