Barry travels back to Earth-2 to learn the origins of Zoom!

Tonight, The Flash returns from a short hiatus with what promises to be one of the most epic stories of the season. “Versus Zoom” will tell the backstory of the villain Zoom, also known as the Earth-2 Flash, Jay Garrick — but apparently really a serial killer by the name of Hunter Zolomon.

In anticipation of tonight’s premiere, The CW has released a short clip from the episode. The scene features Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh) discussing Barry’s plan to reopen the breach to Earth-2. Wells wants Joe to talk Barry out of it, but Joe knows that’s a fruitless idea. Instead, he asks Wells to go with Barry.

In case you missed it, here’s the official synopsis for “Versus Zoom,” written by Joe Peracchio & David Kob and directed by Stefan Pleszcynski:

BARRY IS READY TO FACE ZOOM; HUNTER ZOLOMAN’S STORY IS REVEALED – Equipped with the tachyon device, Barry (Grant Gustin) believes he is fast enough to stop Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) and wants to open the breaches to catch him. Harry (Tom Cavanagh) strongly advises against that plan but after Barry convinces him, Harry reveals that Cisco (Carlos Valdes) has the power to re-open the breach. Meanwhile, Hunter Zoloman’s (Teddy Sears) painful story on Earth-2 is revealed.

And, of course, don’t forget about the awesome episode trailer:
