New Man of Steel actor Tyler Hoechlin says there’s no comparing himself to Henry Cavill
Earlier this week, it was announced that former Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin would be joining Supergirl‘s first two episodes this fall as Superman. Now, the new Man of Steel has started making the press rounds, and has given some thoughts on how he’ll tackle the role.
Hoechlin is currently on a publicity tour in support of Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some!!, a spiritual successor to Dazed and Confused in which Hoechlin has a supporting role. At the Sydney Film Festival, Britain’s Daily Mail asked Hoechlin how he felt about living up to the current big screen Superman, Henry Cavill:
“I never try to compare and contrast performances because it’s such an iconic character already. Superman is Superman so I’m just going to try to carry on the tradition of that and play that part.”
On Thursday, Hoechlin sent a message to his fans on Twitter to share his excitement over landing the Superman role:
“I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world.”
Thankfully, it sounds like Hoechlin’s take on Superman will be more lighthearted than Cavill’s dour interpretation. “I think the fun is going to be finding where Clark Kent is in this world,” he told the Daily Mail. “I’m just excited to find out Clark’s sense of humour.”
Before he heads to National City, though, Hoechlin will finish filming his supporting role in Fifty Shades Darker, the follow-up to 2015’s risqué book adaptation, Fifty Shades of Grey.
“It was fun to be a part of [filming]. It’s interesting going from something like Teen Wolf where we had to build a fan base and then go into something like that where there’s already such an existing fan base,” said Hoechlin. The same thing could sure be said of his Superman role, as well.
