Last year, we all watched as STAR Labs’ resident mechanical engineer discovered and honed his superpowers, taking on the mantle of Vibe. We’ve just been waiting for him to suit up and start fighting meta-humans alongside his best friend (something we got a beautiful hint at in ‘Paradox’ when him and Barry teamed up to take down The Rival). This year, we’ve been watching OTF’s final member, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), come to grips with her newly acquired abilities, attempting to fight the inevitable–turning into her doppelgänger.
This weekend, the synopsis for episode 3×07, ‘Killer Frost’, was released. It’s the first synopsis in three seasons to refer to Caitlin as Killer Frost and Cisco as Vibe. Therefore, fans have been anxiously waiting the past four days to see what exactly Earth-1’s Killer Frost and Vibe are going to look like. Today, our prayers were answered.
In a new video that was released by The CW titled The Flash: Behind the Seams, we get our very first looks at those long-awaited costumes. While the video (narrated by Arrow, The Flash, and Legends costume designer Maya Mani) features the costumes of The Flash (Grant Gustin), The Rival (Todd Lasance), The Top (Ashley Rickards), Mirror Master (Grey Damon), and Kid Flash (Keiynan Lonsdale), prominently displayed in the background are the brand new suits for Caitlin and Cisco. Also, towards the end of the video, we get quick glimpses of some up-close details.
So, let’s start with the master super-suit maker himself: Cisco Ramon, aka Vibe.
As someone who’s written several fanfics about Cisco either coming up with the idea for his suit, legitimately making it, or even wearing it, I’m not afraid to say that this made me tear up big time. “Why” do you ask? Well, take a look at Vibe’s suit from the New 52 run:
Almost identical. Same diamond-quilted design (something I theorized we’d see as Reverb’s jacket had the same design) and same color scheme (something I’ve been worrying about because, despite the color of the gauntlets which we’ve already seen, Cisco’s goggles are currently still dark blue). As showcased so far this season, Cisco’s become extremely confident in his powers and it was only a matter of time before he suited up and fulfilled his comic book destiny. It doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait much longer.
A drastic change from her Earth-2 counterpart but absolutely stunning nonetheless. Dr. Snow’s trading in the leather jacket and animal print corset for a navy coat with silver lapels and a minimalistic snowflake symbol on the stomach. The question remains, however, will this be a one-of-a-kind Ramon creation or will Caitlin acquire this elegant suit some other way? If it’s making its debut in 3×07, would Cisco really make this for her before he and Barry fight her? It seems highly unlikely. Therefore, another option is that she won’t be suiting up until after her eponymous episode, giving Cisco time to make something as classy as Caitlin is.
An important thing to note is that it doesn’t particularly resemble any of the many different iterations of Killer Frost’s costume in the comics. It’s its own thing entirely. Is this a conscious attempt to differentiate her from her villainous doppelgänger? It very well may be.
All in all, this is some very exciting news and I’m counting down the days until we see the actors actually wearing these on screen. They’re no doubt going to look incredible. Keep it here for all things Flash and make sure to tune into ‘Shade’ on November 15th at 8/7c on The CW where yet another member of Team Flash will begin their journey to become a superhero.
