Stephen & Robbie Amell’s Crowdfunded Film ‘Code 8’ Surpasses $1 Million

Code 8 will tell the story of oppressed super-humans in a futuristic Los Angeles

Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell never got much (if any) shared screentime in their Arrowverse roles as Arrow‘s Oliver Queen and The Flash‘s Ronnie Raymond. But Code 8, a new project from the cousins, will bring them together onscreen in an epic action sci-fi feature film.

Code 8 is a crowdfunded effort from the Amells and director Jeff Chan. Both Stephen and Robbie will co-star in the film, alongside Sung Kang (the Fast & Furious franchise) and Aaron Abrams (Hannibal, Stargate Atlantis). Stephen Amell took to Facebook yesterday afternoon to announce the project had officially raised more than $1 million, blowing well past their initial goal of $200,000.

Code 8 started out as a short film, produced last summer and starring Robbie Amell. Stephen was unable to make an appearance due to his commitments to Arrow and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. Here’s the description for the feature film version:

The film takes place in a world where 4% of the population are born with some type of supernatural ability. Instead of being billionaire superheroes, most ‘specials’ live in poverty and resort to crime, forcing the police to become more militarized.

The story follows a young man with special powers (Amell) struggling to find work as a day laborer. After a dispute over payment, he finds himself in a confrontation with a police officer (Kang) and the autonomous robots backing him up.

Robbie and Stephen Amell are both executive-producing the film in addition to starring. Director Jeff Chan and writer Chris Paré (both of the short film Call of Duty: Operation Kingfish) are producing, as well. The crowdfunding effort continues until Friday, April 22, and there are a lot of great perks still available — everything from hoodies and t-shirts to autographs, photos, and posters, and even trips to the premiere!
