Exclusive: Superfan Lance Ausfresser on the New Arrowverse Seasons & More

A few weeks ago, we sat down for an exclusive talk with Arrowverse superfan Lance Ausfresser. In our first interview, we talked about Lance’s extremely popular Facebook groups — the largest groups on the social media site devoted to Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and more.

Now that the new seasons of each show have begun, we invited Lance back for another chat. This time, we wanted to get his opinions on the first batch of new episodes and talk a little bit more about his newest Facebook groups.

Talking Arrowverse with Lance

Arrowverse.tv: Let’s talk about the new seasons of all four shows. The Flash premiered first and we’ve gotten two episode so far. What did you think of the show’s interpretation of Flashpoint?

Lance Ausfresser: Not bad. Hundreds of fans thought it was just gonna be one episode due to the fact that ‘Flashpoint’ was the first episode’s title. Now obviously that wasn’t the case. There was no way the show could have mimicked the comic or the animated movie, so they put their own spin on it.

So far, it’s pretty good and it has a few more episodes to go in regards to Flashpoint, and we saw a bit how it affected Arrow, too.

Lance: Tough call, not too many new characters have been introduced to pick from. But as a Flash fan, I’m thinking Savitar is connected.

Arrowverse.tv: All right, let’s move on to Arrow. A lot of talk was made by the producers about returning to the show’s Season 1 roots this year. Do you think they succeeded?

Lance: As a fan for over 40 years, Season 4 was a bit of a downer for me, as well as other fans. But the Season 5 premiere brought back its A GAME. I’m very excited to see more of Wild Dog, Mr. Terrific, Artemis, and soon the Vigilante. I hope the show continues upwards with the action.

Arrowverse.tv: What do you think about the new characters: Wild Dog, Ragman, and Tobias Church?

Lance: Loved it! At first, I thought Tobias Church was supposed to be Tobias Whale, who was a Black Lightning villain in the 70s and 80s. I was proven wrong by Tony Isabella, the creator of the Black Lightning character. Which, by the way, we have Tony in our Black Lightning group (BLACK LIGHTNING DISCUSSING THE TV SHOW).

Ragman — mysterious character to say the least. Really didn’t follow him in his DC Comics days. I’m looking forward to seeing more.

Arrowverse.tv: Who do you think Prometheus really is?

Lance: Lots of my members in our Arrow group are thinking Tommy [Merlyn], but I’m not so sure. In the comics, he was a force to be reckoned with.

But don’t worry, he won’t be blasting off Arsenal’s arm on the TV show.

Arrowverse.tv: Supergirl premiered this week and all the talk was about Tyler Hoechlin. What’s your take on his performance as Superman?

Lance: Great job! It was great to see them get Superman on the small screen again. I’m looking forward to more team ups and more interaction with Martian Manhunter.

Plus we don’t need to worry, he will not be overshadowing Supergirl — she’s the star of the show.

Arrowverse.tv: There were some other changes this season, too, such as the new DEO headquarters, Kara’s new job, her breakup with James, and the arrival of Lena Luthor. Do you have any thoughts about any of those developments?

Lance: Can any Luthor be trusted? I guess we’ll find out.

[As far as] Kara wanting to become a reporter, I’m all for it.

The newest development is Jimmy Olsen becoming the Guardian. I find it a bit humorous. If this actor wasn’t portraying Jimmy Olsen I’d find it more acceptable. I guess though it’s about better than Jimmy Olsen as Elastic Lad.

Arrowverse.tv: We also saw the first episode of Legends of Tomorrow’s new season this week. How did you feel about the premiere?

Lance: Honestly, it really didn’t reel me in. I felt it just was kinda dragging along. The highlight was at the end when we finally saw the Justice Society of America. I’m looking forward to the rest of the season and the Legion of Doom.

Arrowverse.tv: It looks like Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) is off the show — at least for now. What’s your take on that change?

Lance: He’s definitely not dead. Lots of fans think that he died. But, the ship was intact, Heat Wave was fine. Even though he was held in a medical protective state, he could have [been] killed.

I foresee seeing Rip after several episodes down the line.
