The manga in Japan is analogous to the comic books, created in the second half of the 20th century. The American and Western comic books greatly influenced the modern representation of Japan’s graphic stories. However, some characteristics of this art can be found in the traditional Ukiyo-e and Sumi-e paintings.
Manga is closely associated with anime and Doraemon series. Often an animated or cinematic work is created precisely on the basis of comics. In the last several decades, the manga has stopped to be a cultural phenomenon purely associated with Japan and has become popular in many other countries around the world. Today, this is an important category of cultural exports of Japan.
During the Comic-Con International, the industry of manga announced that it received new licenses to publish comics – The Poe Clan will be released by Moto Hagio and 31 volumes of manga about martial arts called Back in August will be published by Media Do. The comics have never been published in English.
